The Jerusalem International Film Festival opener A Matter of Size (Sipur Ha’Gadol) is to receive an English-language remake. The Weinstein Company purchased the rights following its international premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York earlier this year.
Harvey Weinstein stated ‘A Matter of Size is a feel-good comedy that is really touching and funny. It's a relatable story that will translate for American audiences.’
Written and directed by Sharon Maymon and Erez Tadmor, the film follows an overweight dishwasher at a Japanese restaurant in Israel who realises he could be a Sumo superstar.
The film has been nominated for 13 Israeli Academy Awards, including best film, director and script and, earlier in the year, was the recipient of the Audience Award at the prestigious Karlovy Vary Film Festival in the Czech Republic.
